Welcome to February! It’s a month of new beginnings and opportunities to draw nearer to God. One of the most important aspects of our relationship with the Lord is worship. Worship in Spirit and in truth is essential for us to experience true joy and peace in our lives.
In John 4:24, Jesus calls for true and authentic worship when He says, “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” This phrase encourages believers to approach worship with sincerity, humility, and reverence, recognizing that God is not only omnipotent but also omniscient. Genuine worship is not merely going through the motions or saying the right words, but instead involves having a genuine connection with God and a deep understanding of His greatness.
The Benefits of Worship in Spirit and in Truth
The benefits of worshiping in spirit and in truth are numerous. Worship in spirit and in truth is an act of surrender to God, a way of allowing Him to work in our lives and draw us closer to Him. Worship in spirit and in truth is an expression of faith, an acknowledgment of His supremacy and power. It is a way of focusing on God and His goodness, rather than on our own worries and concerns.
Worshiping in spirit and in truth is also a way of allowing God to work in our lives. When we worship with our whole hearts, we are more open to His guidance and direction. We are more likely to sense His presence and to be receptive to His leading.
How to Worship in Spirit and in Truth
Worship in spirit and in truth is an attitude of the heart. It is an act of surrender to God and a way of allowing Him to work in our lives. Here are a few practical ways to cultivate a spirit of worship in spirit and in truth:
• Spend time in prayer. Prayer is an opportunity to draw near to God and to open our hearts to Him.
• Spend time in the Bible. The Bible contains a plethora of stories, promises, and instructions that can assist us in comprehending who God is and how He wishes to be worshipped.
• Spend time in worship. Worship can be expressed through music, art, or simply through meditating on the goodness of God.
• Spend time in fellowship. Worshiping in spirit and in truth is not a solitary activity. Being part of a church community and spending time with other believers can help us to grow in our worship of God.
• Spend time in service. Serving others is an act of worship, as it is a way of expressing our love and devotion to God.
Worshiping in spirit and in truth is an act of surrender and an expression of faith. It is an opportunity to draw near to God and to open ourselves to His presence. As we seek to cultivate a spirit of worship in spirit and in truth, may we be reminded of the words of Jesus in John 4:24: “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Here’s a teaching from our YouTube channel, WorshipwithGladysTV, where our first guest for WWG Presents Virtual Worship Tomi Favored taught passionately on this topic, “Stay Blessed and Aware of His Presence!”

Amen and again I say amen. This is such a powerful message for those seeking to understand the wholeness that is worship. As I was reading through scriptures, focusing on the word worship, I saw a pattern. It was either describing worship to the Lord or the worship of idols. I found this to be important because it’s letting us know two things, one being we were made, better yet created to worship and two, if we are not worshiping God our Lord and Savior, then we are worshiping idols. There is no in between, why, because we were create to worship. Worship is a totally heart posture towards God regarding all we do and all we are. Lord help us to worship you in spirit and in truth. Another thing the Lord brought to my attention, is when we do not worship in spirit than we worship by the flesh which does not desire the things of God, this leads us to idols, because we seek things that gratify our flesh. But when we worship in spirit and truth (which is the knowledge of Jesus) then our spirit seeks that of God because nothing else can satisfy. God you are so good, and we bless your Holy name. Thank you again for this blessed word Pastor G. May God continue to increase your knowledge in Jesus name.
Wow, Abigail! “if we are not worshiping God our Lord and Savior, then we are worshiping idols. There is no in-between!” You are so on point! There is so much to unpack with this topic. And having that heart posture of worship and being intentional about it makes it challenging to gratify our flesh. You can’t gaze at God and the devil at the same time, you can only give attention one at a time, it begs the question who do we give ‘more’ attention to? I pray God reveals more of Himself to us. Thanks for your comments!
Holy Spirit has been moving lately!! WORSHIP is a complete and total surrender of your heart, mind, and will to the Lord. Knowing that He alone is Alpha and Omega and acknowledging this with reverence and awe. Loving this so much and can’t wait for the next one.
You are so right! I am realizing that true worship also starts with pursuing God but that pursuit is first because He put that urge within us and that spurs us to the pursuit. I am reading an incredible devotional by T W Tozer, ‘The Pursuit of God and here’s an excerpt. ‘We pursue God because, and only because, He has first put an urge within us that spurs us to the pursuit. “No man can come to me,” said our Lord, “except the Father which hath sent me draw him,” and it is by this very prevenient drawing that God takes from us every vestige of credit for the act of coming. The impulse to pursue God originates with God, but the out working of that impulse is our following hard after Him; and all the time we are pursuing Him we are already in His hand: “Thy right hand upholdeth me.”’ There is so much to unpack!
Wonderful read. I can’t get past worshipping Him in truth. It’s just something about it. Jesus is the ‘way,’ the ‘truth,’ and the ‘life.’
My question to you is why is worship so dear to you? What is it about worship
